6 Healthy Juices Celebrities Swear By To Speed Up Their Metabolism

Winter is coming. Which means you’re probably due for a good detox before you fill your body with comfort food. #amiright

Enter: juicing, definitely not just a trend, but a way of life for some people. Celebrities in particular use “juicing” as a way of “detoxifying”, putting more healthy food and fuel into their bodies daily, and also getting the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables in one delicious hit. Detoxification juices for speeding up the metabolism and well, slimming, have become one of the world’s most popular ways to rid of toxins in our bodies.

Homemade super juices include a whole lot of raw fruits and veggies, and are not only packed with nutrients, but they also contain fewer calories than most other “juices” you can buy on supermarket shelves. But like everything else, juices should be drunk in moderation, as they can have a high sugar-ratio. You can replace one meal a day with a juice or as a post/pre workout boost.

We’ve done our research and put together 6 of the best healthy juices (and their recipes) that are favoured by health-conscious celebs like Blake Lively, Miranda Kerr, Gwyneth Paltrow, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Jessica Alba and Jennifer Aniston. Cheers, ladies!

Blake Lively

“A few years ago, I had a juice that changed it all for me—a mix that’s better than any po’ boy you’ll ever eat,” Lively says. “Vegetables in their purest form are refreshing and palate-cleansing, while the sweet notes of the fruits and mint make this both quenching and intoxicating. Now I can get my dose of veggies in a delicious way.”

  • 1 cup kale

  • 2 Swiss chard leaves

  • 1/2 cup parsley

  • 1/2 small beet

  • 1/2 cup pineapple

  • 2 green apples (use red for sweeter flavor)

  • 1 sprig fresh mint

  • 1/2 lemon, peeled

HERE’S HOW TO MAKE IT:

Combine all ingredients in a blender or juicer and process until smooth.

Miranda Kerr

“Water from a fresh coconut, and also cold pressed coconut milk. Acai powder...a potent source of antioxidants. Goji berries (which I sometimes as a treat I like to add in dark chocolate covered goji berries) Spirulina. It's often described as the most complete food source in the world. Raw cacao powder. It's cold pressed and doesn't contain chemicals. Maca powder. It's really energising and revitalising. Chia seeds. A fantastic source of calcium, magnesium; they also contain lots of iron and are also really high in fibre. Vegan rice powder. Lean muscle mass and helps maintain energy levels throughout the day. It's really good to contain the body's blood sugar levels."

  • 1 tablespoon acai powder

  • 1 tablespoon of goji berries

Jessica Alba

Jessica Alba's Go-To Green Drink

“This was my best friend when I was trying to lose the baby weight, but it’s great anything you feel like you’ve overindulged. It fills you up and is completely packed with nutrients.”

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED:

  • 2 celery sticks, chopped

  • 1 whole cucumber, peeled and roughly chopped

  • 2 green apples, cored and seeded

  • 2 handfuls of chopped kale

  • 2 lemons, juiced

  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, finely diced

  • Frozen watermelon or a dash of the natural sweetener stevia

HERE’S HOW TO MAKE IT:

Blend well; refrigerate what you don’t drink immediately (makes about 2 servings).

Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston swears by her 'wonder' smoothie - and drinks nothing else on one day every week. “The drink is made up of fresh, organic vegetables. Beetroot, cucumbers, spinach, garlic, carrots, celery and kale.' Jennifer “drinks the super healthy concoction one day a week, usually on a Saturday”. “The drink is filling so should be easy to do for one day a week, but make sure it's part of a healthy balanced diet,' she said.

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED:

  • 6 organic cucumbers

  • 3 large organic beets

  • 2 bunches spinach

  • 1 bunch organic kale

  • Fresh garlic and ginger

  • 1 bunch organic carrots

  • 1 stick of celery

HERE’S HOW TO MAKE IT:

Pulp all the vegetables together in a juicer. Add a little cayenne pepper or a herb such as parsley, to make the juice blend taste like a vegetable soup. Immediately refrigerate the juice.. Drink as much as you want, all day, for one day a week.

Gwyneth Paltrow

The best green juice. Just about as energising as a cup of coffee with none of the letdown, green juice is an incredibly healthy, invigorating way to start your day. Kale is full of calcium and antioxidants and just about everything else. When juiced with a bit of lemon, apple and ginger and a tiny hit of refreshing mint, it turns into a sort of grassy lemonade. No worries if you don't have a juicer: a blender and a strainer do the trick. Serves one.

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED:

  • 5 large leaves of kale, ribs discarded, leaves roughly chopped

  • 1 lemon, zest and pith removed

  • 1 large apple, roughly chopped

  • A 2.5cm piece of fresh ginger

  • 1 sprig of fresh mint

HERE’S HOW TO MAKE IT:

Push all the ingredients through your juicer. Alternatively, you can chop all the ingredients and pop them into a powerful blender with 120ml of water, then pass the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer and drink immediately.
